Southern, the editor of “Wisden,’’ who collapsed after speaking at the Surrey Club’s dinner. M.C.C. v. JAMAICA. KINGSTON (Jamaica), March 12. Jamaica with. 6 wickets down for 452 declared the innings closed against M.C.C. Moodie made 60 not out, and Fuller 113 not out. Arnott took 4 for 88. Marylebone in the second innings lost 3 for 109. Townsend made 41. Beckford took 3 for 43. The match was drawn.
LONDON, March 13. The late Mr Southern was attending the Ferret Cricket Club’s dinner held at the Oval, and not the Surrey Club’s dinner. He had been recently in poor health, but was cheerful. During the dinner he proposed the toast of “Cricket.” x /When he sat down he was apparently unwell. He was carried to an anteroom, where he died before the arrival of doctors. The guests imine* diately dispersed.
