(Our Own Correspondent). It is reported a meeting 'is shortly to be held with ‘the object of forming a Prospecting Association for this district. Last week’s storm did some damage to the local tennis court. At the eudhre and dance held on Saturday night, the euchre prize winners were Miss E. Brown and Mr G. Hayes. i A meeting of returned, s'oldiers was held here on Saturday morning. A hearty l vote of thanks was passed for the donations which helped to make the social: re-union a success, donations having been received from Mr J. McLeod, Park Ho‘te.l; Mr T. O’Brien, Club Hotel,; Mr R. Reid, Dominion Hotel; Mr A. Lees, Royal Hotel; Mrs McKechnie, Empire Hoitel; Mr Friday Easther Westland Brewery, and a friend. Mrs Brown presided over the monthly meeting of the Ahaura Women’s Institute held on Thursday last. Mesdames Paul and Sheedy were elected delegates to the Federation Conference to be held aX Greyniouth on October 26. After business and correspondence had been dealt with a demonstration of rope mat making was given by Mr Simonsen, and was thoroughly appreciated by the members, the President calling for a heai J ty vote of thanks for the demonstrator. The role call was 41 old photos, ” causing much amusement, as did a potato peeling competition for which members were blindfolded. Mrs Honey won. One new' member was welcomed. Preparations are w'ell in hand, and Ahaur a is looking forward to the anniversary ball which is being held on the 19th.
