RUGBY October 1 The first half of the current financial yean ended yesterday. B r tain’s ordinary revenue for ‘he period wa< £273,883 OSG, exclusive of the selfbalancing items, anq ordinary expenditure £328 526,930. The deficit is about six mil’ions larger than t ihe corresponding date last year. The deficit was then £4B 590 135. There was nearly 40 millions surplus when the last financial year ended on March 31st. An increase in supply expenditure, nearlv six millions, was responsible for the Larger deficit. Exchequer receipts show a not doc-rease of onl> £1 852,756. There is an iimreasp of £7.516 000 in income lax, pribpblv due to a change in Die method of collection Death duties were 'owe’’ by four millions. CAPETOWN, October 2As the result of negotiations between the Union and German Governments regarding the establishment of credit facilities to Germany for the purchase of South African wool, having thus far failed, the Department of Agriculture decided to make advances to wool fanners, thus serving to provide farmers, unable immediately to dispose of the clips, with part of their cash requirements.
