Arrangements have been made b<' the University College Council and the Police Department for a course of lectures to be given to commissioned officers and members of the detective stair next year. The lectures will be along the lines of those arranged by Lord Trench ard, Chief Commissioner of Scotland Yard. They will be given by Mr W. R. McGregor, zoologist, and Professor R. M. Algie, Dean of the Law Faculty. WIIANGAREI, August 21. A fatality occurred at Pipiwai, 40 miles from Whangarei, yesterday afternoon, the victim being a Maori girl, Pute Peihopa, 12 years, who left home in the morning, carrying an axe. She was found some hours later dead, beside a Taraire tree which apparently had fallen on the girl, breaking her neck. WELLINGTON, August 21.
