Miss Marv Dunmore Lang, the Inst surviving member of the family of Doctor John Dunmore Lang, a noted Presbyterian minister in Sydney, lef» an estate valued at £54,223. Cane cutters in the Herbert river district are on strike because they were not allowed to burn cant prior to cutting, in order to destroy rats which it is believed caused the outbreak of Weils disease. The unruly element among the strikers asserted itself. Parties went from farm to farm, overturning all cane trucks found on the tram lines. A demonstration was made at Halifax police station. The police fired shots into the air, dispersing the crowd.
