REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, August 21. Dr. and Mrs Logan and Mr Marshall, solicitor, Murchison, were visitors to Reef ton last evening. Miss McGregor, who has been on a brief visit to Christchurch, returned by last evening’s express. ■Mt A. Sharpe, a son-in-law of Mr Jas. Magee, formei/ly an employee ot the Progress Company, but now el Auckland, arrived in Reef Von lasi evening. Mr L. Pepper, -who has been employed for some time past at the Murray Creek Mines, left this morning for Auckland, wheno he wi’l in future reside. Many juveniles in Reef ton will learn with regret of the death of the -white donkey known as “Toodles. ’’ The animal was found dead this morning in the section attached to Mr Shadbol’t’s residence, Buller Road. The donkey was a great favourite with the children, all and sundry riding her, and must have been a great age. The animal., whicji was brought to Reefton from Waihi by the late Mr D. McKane, has a Dominion rcpuralion, and had been written about as far afield as Sydney, a humerous sketch about, hen having appeared in the “Bulletin.”

The death took place at 585, George street. Dunedin, this morning, of Miss Margaret Elizabeth Shepherd, daughter of the late Air and Mrs G. B. Shepherd, of Reef ton. The deceased lady was a native of Reefton. ami for some years past hail been in delicate health. She had undergone several operations, and for a time, -t looked as if these were successful, but early this year she returned to Dunedin ’ fo:i further medical treatment. During the last few week her condition was reported as very prec l ariou l s, so that the news of he - , demise has not come, as a great surprise to her many Reef ton friends. She is survived by one sister, Miss N. Shepherd. and four brothet Messrs William (NapierY George (Wellington). Douglas (Christ church) and Captain Norman Shepherd (India). The bereaved family will receive the sincere condolences of n very large circle of friends in their bereavement.
