HAWKE’S BAY v. WANGANUI. HASTINGS, August 16. Hawke’s Bay defeated Wanganui by 39 points to 16 in the first challenge for the Ranfurly Shield at Napier today. The game, for the most part, was very open, but a-t the same time, it was ragged until late in the secoal spell, when scoring - came at an extremely fast pace. The scorers for Hawke’s Bay were: Gunn. Le Quesne. Miller. Apsey (3), Smith (2), Rolls-. Ireland and Bradley (tries), and Shirreffs (three conversions). For Wanganui Mclntyre, Chase, Buckley and Thakombau scored tries, and Chase converted two of the tries.
