REEFTON NOTES

At the Magistrate’s Cpurt to-day, five persons were convicted and fined for being on licensed premises at the wrong hours. At a meeting of the Jockey Club Committee, the Reefton Trotting Club’s app’.ication for the use, of the grounds for their annual meeting, on December 30th, was granted on the usual terms and conditions. Letters were read from Drs. Mai shall and Logan, accepting positions as honorary surgeons. A letter from the Minister of Internal Affairs was received, definitely refusing to refund the extra 1} per cent, totalisator iebate. A letter from the Dunedin Jockqy Club, asked the Club’s support in reecmmending to the Racing Conference that pressure be brought on the Police Department to enforce the law, regarding betting with book makers. The Committee decided to enter a vigorous protest to the N.Z. Trotting Association, against the declining of Mr J. Noble’s application for a trotting handicapper’s license o n the ground that it had been decided to reduce thQ number of handicappers, and to ask the other Clubs interested to cooperate.
All good things must com© to an end, but the Reef ton Fire Brigade ball tomorrow night (Friday) will only end when everybody is satisfied. The pro gramme drawn up, consists of old-time and modern dances. Novelties are also included, while efficient M.’s.C., have been appointed to carry these out. and everybody is assured of getting a partner for the numerous dances. Gentlemen are again reminded they ar© to wear white gloves. Soft drinks may be procured in the hall. Come along and see thQ fire-eaters give out their smoke and hear the orchestra rattle their bones!
At the Fire Brigade ball to mor,row”'evening. Miss Cooper, a well-known Greymouth artist, will give an exhibition of tap dancing A basketball match, played at Ihamatua yesterday afternoon between the Reefton and Ikamatua scholars, resulted in a win for Reefton by eight goals to five.
The Inangahua Silver Band’s old' time danco, at the Band Room last evening, drew a large attendance. A very jolly time was spent by all. The music was supplied by Mrs Ecklund and the Band, and Messrs Cook and Kent contributed aecordeon extras. Mr 11. T. Kearns was M.C. The Lucky Waltz competition was won by Air ami Miss Rolli nson.
The Reef ton School hold a schools’ seven a-side rugby tournament pn Saturday. Three grades will be played, secondary, primary and primary juniors. All hope to see a good attendance of the public, at what should be an excel’ent afternoon’s display of football. The. first game will start at 12 o’clock, noon.

B. Mein roe (Air Patterson) ordinary prospecting license, over 25 acres. i n Blk. VII, Mawheraiti; objected to by Alan McLennan (Air Kitchingham).—Ad joumed to October 6th; A. Pratt and V. A. J- Murray (Mr Patterson) for an ordinary prospecting license over 20 acr©s at Antonio’s Creek. —Adjourned to October 6th. Two suits were adjourned till October 6th. viz:—Peter Mitchell v. G. B. Mclnroe, R. Ronchi, A. G. and B. Rubino; winding up of mining partnership. A. Walker and J. Comerford v. Boatman’s Consolidated Gold Alines, C. Morris, D. J. Cameron, and R. F. Williams; a claim for cancellation of mining privileges and to be given prior right to apply for same. This was adjourned to enable evidence to be taken at Alasterton.
