OLYAIPIC GAMES. WELLINGTON, September 19. A civic reception to Count de Baillet Latour, of Belgium, President of thc International Olympic Committee, was given to-day. Opportunity was also taken to welcome back the members of the New Zealand Olympic team. Lack of combination was responsible for the failure of the Now Zealand rowing team to secure a wiji at the Olympic Games, said Air Clarrie Healey, the coach, on his return by the. Alonowai to-day. Air Healey said that, in the circumstances, the team did exceedingly xvel’. Although beaten they certainly were not disgraced. From all appearances, the New Zealand men rowed just as "well as the others did, and their style compared favourably with that of the other oarsmen, but in the tussle, in which ihe crews were “all out,” combination told. Although their faults had carefully been corrected during training, the men were prone to revert back to their old style when hard pushed. The other crews bad com-
bination because they were club crews. Air Healey remarked: “I feel that, if the New Zealand champion four and double sculls had participated in the games, and if Stiles and Thompson had concentrated on the pairs. we would have had three certain wins. I would suggest that, in future, club eight-oared rowing be encouraged, instead of inter-provincial eights. This would mean that the clubs would be able to concentrate on a first-class eight:” BURGLARY. NELSON, September 19. Over the week-end. the safe in the Nelson Technical School was blown open.
