FOR SETTLEMENT, NOT DEATH’ (Aus. & N.Z. Cable Assn). CALCUTTA, September IS. Prominent Hindus made further efforts to persuade Gandhi to abandon his starvation project. Gandhi, replying to an appeal from Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru, the Hindu Liberal Leader, said: “I could not alter the decision taken in God’s name, but if God wills, my body will hold against the fast long enough for a settlement.” -> It is rumoured that Gandhi is to become the guest of a well-known local Indian woman sympathiser. Leading Bombay Hindus have called on the Premier, and the Hindus of the depressed classes to avert a nation. ■’ : T . A campaign has started for ‘he observation of a fast throughout India on Tuesday. Terrorists broadcasted leaflets calling on the Indians to murder all Government officials, also to massacre their wives and children. A non-violent policy was condemned as only blood can produce political freedom.
