WAIUTA NOTES
(Our Own Correspondent.; WAIUTA, March 31. Mr W. Hynes, who has been visiting Christchurch, returned at the end of the week. Mrs A. Grey has left for an extend-' ed visit to Wellington. Mr F. Thorn, the well-known local axeman, who is visiting the North Island, has been competing at sports meetings in the King Country. At Owhanga on Easter Saturday, he gain- 1 ed first place in the open chop, securing £2O, a ten guinea silver cup, and r. miniature gold axe. At the Oterohanga sports on Easter Monday ho was narrowly defeated in the big chop by oiki second, and secured £7 10s for second place. The congratulations of all local sports are extended to MiThorn on his success. A number of local residents visited Reefton on Easter Monday, and al! report having spent an enjoyable day at the sports meeting held there. A good many spent the Easter holidays in Christchurch. Mr Brown (Greymouth), Government Bailer Inspector, was a visitor during the week-end. The Public Tennis Club visited Moana on Sunday, and were defeated by the Moana Club after a series of interesting games. The visitors were suitably entertained by the Moana Club during their stay.
Mr Llewellyn has taken over the position of headmaster of the local school. Mr Robertson, who was temporarily in charge, has left for Nelson. Good progress is being made with the work of filling in the Recreation Ground. A second tennis court for the Public Tennis Club is well under way.
