WAIMAK. CONFERENCE. i Ker Press Association). CHRISTCHURCH, March 31. Waimakariri relief strike continues, but no developments occurred to-day. The police are still guarding the camp, and the pickets are on duty. Probably a conference with the Trust will be held this afternoon. HUNTLY UNEMPLOYED. RATES AND JOBS UNSATISFACTORY. HAMILTON, March 31. A strike was declared yesterday by Huntly relief workers. All drainage and swamp work in and about the town will be black-listed. Over 200 unemployed are affected by the developments. Drainage and swamp work has been black-listed by relief workers, as being uncongenial and unhealthy. Three relief workers were engaged on work on the Recreation Ground. Huntly, yesterday. A police guard of five watched the proceedings. A number of unemployed were detailed yesterday to clear the railway line of scrub and gorse in the central part of the town for relief wages 12s a day. The committee of the unemployed met and refused to let the men work on the job, unless paid railway surfacemen’s wages 14s a day.
