PROPOSALS AGAINST RUSH. BRITISH TARIFF (Received February 19 at 8 p.m.) LONDON, February 19. Tn the House of Commons during the committee stage on the Imports Duties Bill, Major G. Lloyd George (Liberal) moved an amendment providing that the imposition of the ten per cent, duty on imports should be made the subject of an inquiry and a report to the House. The amendment was defeated by 293 votes to 61. Sir Stafford Cripps (Labour) moved that the duties should operate on November 15th next, instead of on March Ist. Ho said that Britain ought not to be bound before the Ottawa Economic Conference is held. The amendment was defeated without a division.
