REEFTON NOTES
(From Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, November 26. About 9.50 last, night, Reefton experienced one of the heaviest earthquakes felt since the big shake. Its direction was from the north-east. It. was accompanied by a loud rumbling. It shook buildings severely, and several people ran out of their houses into the streets. So far as can be ascertained, however, no damage was done.
Two of the employees at the reduction works at the Blackwater mine at Waiuta were brought to Reefton Hospital last, night, .suffering (from Arsenical poisoning. One, Air F. S. Orr, is not seriously hurt, but the condition of the other, Air Gordon Bolitho, is not so satisfactory, and a day or two must elapse before the nature of his condition can be determined. It is Loped, however, that it will not be very serious.
The monthly meeting of the Reefton Women’s Institute was held on Tuesday. There was a good attendance of members and two new members were elected. The roll call, “The Noise I ATost Dislike,” produced a great collection of noises and caused much merriment. The W.l. Almanacs were distributed and several more were ordered. The demonstration at next meeting on December Bth is to be one of seagrass stools. Tn the soft toy competition, Miss Arnott was first and Miss Burns second, and there w r ere several other good entries. A demonstration in the making and waxing of paper roses was given by Mrs Rollerson, and on the making of hydrangeas by Mrs J. L. Wicken.
