Airs A. Torrance left yesterday for Dunedin. Alias A. Kettle leaves to-day for Christchurch. Mr A. J. Pratt. <>f the Railway workshops staff, accompanied by Mrs Pratt, leaves to-day -for the North Island on a holiday visit to Auckland. Napier and New Plymouth. Miss Clare Murtha wh o has ben an inmate of the Gre v River Hospital for the past £ve weeks, has made a good ficcvery. and returns to her home to-day. The engagement is announced of Edna Kathleen M-Gurk, only daughter of Air and Mrs Elmer, Blakctown. to Albert, only son of Mr and Mrs I>. Johnstone, Alexander Terrace, Greymouth. Air Fred Mayfield’s Canadian Cow boy Band, at present touring the We>t Coast, are staying at Reviugton’s Hotel. The instrumentalists comprise the following: Messrs Astard, Mars, Hall. Mayfield, Turner Hughes, McCalla m, and Holder. Th? fur. era I of the late Mr Thomas Parfitt, which took place yesterday afternoon, was attended by a large number of friends of deceased from all parts of the district. The interment was made at Karoro Cemetery, the service at the graveside being conducted by the Rev. J. S. Bartlett. A Press Association message states that word has been received by the New Zealand Church Missionary Society. from Bishop Holden, of Kwang sihunan, that Miss Tobin, the New i Zealand missionary, captured by bandits about six weeks ago. and held for ransom, has been released unharmed. Guests at present staying at Reviugton’s Hotel include: Messrs W. Alclndoc (Auckland), W. H. Holdsworth (Christchu’rch), J. Leitdli (Wellington), Daubney (Christchurch), G. Snoad (Wellington), J. T. Dixon (Christchurch), Bryan (Westport,', W. Martin (Nelson), 'Gibson (Dunedin), Mr and Mrs W. Harris (Wellington). Advice was received yesterday that Mr< H- Ipii O’Kane, an old resident of the Coast, had passed away at the residence of her nephew. Air Vai Lowes, Otahuhu. The late Mrs O’Kane was a native of Ireland. She resided during the greater part of her life in Grey mouth. Her husband. Mr W. O’Kane, predeceased her five years ago. Deceased had been an invalid since last Christmas. Mr George Goad. an employee of Passmore’s Farm. Teremakau Settlement. was found dead in bed on Sundav morning by his mate. Deceased was in his usual good spirits the pre vious evening. He had, however, re cently been in the Westland Hospital for several weeks, and it is considered that an inquest will be unnecessary. Deceased was single, and 57 years of age. He was a native of Hokitika, but had resided for many years at Hokitika. He is survived by his mother and a brother, Air Joseph Goad, of Kumara. The funeral will take place to-day.
