BRUNNER NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) The cricket match between the A’s and B’s resulted in a win lor tue fogmer, as 'predicted. Sunday’s game will be staged at Waiuta, when another 'win j‘ s anticipated. Nothing like optimism I TTii Friday, November 9th, a ball will be held at Wallsend to assist the funds of the cricket club, and Williams’ orchestra has been engaged. A controversy rages in the district concerning thq strange ejection at Wallsend bet-wen the station and t-*e bridge. The “Freedom of the City” ’of Wallsend wiki be conferred upon the first person who ser.ds in a correct solution of the problem. Personally, I think it’s a figure eight railway. Last* week-end, Halloween was cele brated at Dobson, when everybody enjoyed “a v/ry pleasant time. An Ingleside will be hold next week-end. A special meeting of the. Brunner Borough Council was held on Friday, October 26th, thos.i present being: The Mayor (Mr J. Smeaton), Councillors Case, N imino, Chetwynde, MeIvor, Dixon and Puruy. It resolved that additional by-laws as suggested by the iTealth Inspector be approved ‘of, and includ d in general by-laws; that additions, as suggested by Mr Doogan be approved of and included in general by-laws; tha.t Mr Gilbert bq advised that he may commence work on thd suspension bridge at his earliest convenience; that cubic yards of gravel be ordered from Mr Charles Rogers, to be delivered at Dobson siding; and that the clerk’s request To work un Monday, instead of Thursday, for following week, be granted. Mr M. Torrence was presented with a fountain pen on leaving the district to take up other duties at Okains Bay. The position of schoolmaster held by him for four yea rd will be» temporarily filled by Mr C. Chamberlain of Christchurch.
The polling booths in the district for the forthcoming election are situated as follows:—At Dobson the school; at Taylorville, the school; and at Wallsend, the. Council offices. Realising that the people of this district understand the “art of voting correctly,” Mr H. Holland, the Labour candidate, is directing his attention to other constituencies where the result is less certain. After the election he will explain his attitude, and thank us for returning him.
