BLACKBALL NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) At a meeting of the Executive of the Blackball Miners’ Union, held on statements were made to the effect that conditions, etc., in the min?: were far from satisfactory. This statement was challenged and evidence was requested, but none was forthcoming. It was decided that the ch. ck-iusphetorc examine the mine on the following day and make a minute examination afiTl inquiry re the allegations. The subsequent investigation reveal. <1 ihat no grounds existed for. the statement made. Certainly, were one or two minor complaint* but these were adjusted on the job. Ventilation and general conditions had, if anything, slightly improved. Blackball visitors to Christchurch Racing Carnival include; —Mrs H. Campbell, Mr and Mrs Parsonage, Mr and Mrs C. Duske, Messrs E. Taylor, T. Gilmer, J. Haisty, junr., W. Kui•iJla, Hunter Ritchie. It is repbTted that- a transfer is taking place concerning two local firms of importance. Mr J. Neilson is temporarily in charge of the Blackball mine vice Mr W. Parsonage, who is on holiday. It is stated that a member of the Sawmill Workers’ Union, who had a legitimate grievance, and took action to have the same rectified, finds that his organisation seems powcrLss to materially assist him. Surely some 'nvestigatic- is required. The Blackball Silver Band recently printed Conductor C. Fraser with a clock as a wedding gift. Mr T. Kerr made the presentation, the happy event being celebrated at the Club Room of “ampbell’s Hotel. Mr ; aJid Mrs Geo. Nuttall, sent., who have resided in Blackabll for 30 years and New- Zealand for 40 y ars, will celebrate their golden wedding on Novembe* They luivc seven sons an* l daughters living, and 26 grandchildren.
