REEFTON NOTES

(From Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, March 21. The funeral of the late Mrs M. E. Powley /took pfac,e yesterday afternoon, and was attended by a large number of friends of the deceased. The services at St. Stephen’s Church and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. J. W. Bloyce. Members of the Reefton Fire Brigade acted as pall bearers. The monthly meeting of the County Council, and ' that of the Hospital Board, take place on Thursday. Mr and Mrs W. P. Monteith arrived last evening from Wellington. The weather her e at present is very mild. The haze of smoke has cleared away, but it was substituted by a heavy fog yesterday morning. The town reservoir is now reported to be very nearly full, and the other is gradually tilling. The pump is being operated day and night, and it is now hoped that with a sufficient water supply, the danger of a tire without water will be passed. Pickaninny, Smithereens ami Red Audubon were despatched to Westport yesterdav. R. Coveney will have the mount on the two first-named horses. It was reported yesterday that an other good reef was struck in the New Big River gold workings. The coal mines are working short time at present in Reef ton. yi r J. Neal, of Blackwater, visited Reef ton to-day. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Reefton Cricket Club takes place on Friday night, in lieu of Thursday night. Mr F. Craighead, of Waiuta, has catered the Reefton Public Hospital for treatment. An attempt was made last evening to break into the Ikaniatua Bailway Station.
