Grade first test were: Queen Alexandra’s Own (Wanganui). —This Band opened in excellent accord, with fine toral quality, level intonation and unanimity of action and marked piccision. The cornet, trombone, euphonium solos were all artistically interpreted, and obligato parts were effective. In the big ensembles there was a grand body of rich tone. A real lv good all-round irndering, except for minor lip lapses and "ortain momentary unsteadiness in a few intricate pas Grevmouth Municipal: Opened in good stvle, with fine round tone. The intonation was taxed in the early part. Hardly a band escaped here. The euphonium and trombone gave fine inter pretations of their solos, while the cornet solo work was quite amongst the best of the evening. The soprano was effective and all parts went well. A vigorous close completed a most pleasing performance. Kaikorai. — A splendid opening move meat, with unfortunately one pronounced false note. Time and tune were very pleasing, but inclined to lose tone occasionallv. The soprano obligato work was a feature and the solo cornet a gem. Harmony part in sotto voce were very pretty and dance movements daintv. All the concluding movements were well played. A really good performance.
