BOXING.

WEST COAST CHAMPIONSHIPS GOOD ENTRIES. On Saturday evening all votaries of boxing will make the Town Hall their venue to see the West Coast Amateur Championships. It has come to be generally recognised that there is at least as good an evening’s sport provided at an amateur tourney as at a professional bout, and this year’s championships promise to prove most exciting, as there are several new men of undoubted ability competing, while the best of those who have won in past years are again entering the lists. The entries provide many fine contests, and the winners who comprise the West Coast team, should give a good account of themselves at the Dominion championships, to be held at Napier on August 26, 27, and 28. The following nominations have been received for the various classes: —

Flyweight (7.10) —S. Purton (Waiuta); J. Gage (Paroa). Bantam (B.2)—F. Gage (Paroa), N. Kiely (Greymouth). Featner (9.0) —J. Scott (Waiuta), W. Duggan (Bunanga), A. G. Hill (Gladstone), F. Gage (Paroa), N. Kiely (Greymouth), J. Ford (Greymouth). Lightweight (10.0)—R. McDonald (Blackball), J. Scott (Waiuta), J. Morrissey (Te Kinga), W. Duggan (Bunanga), J. Ford (Greymouth), C. Fong (Greymouth), D. Finley (Ngahero). Welter (10.9)— B. Magee (Te Kinga), J. Scott (Bunanga), L. Southon (Inangahua Landing), “Dago” Nelson (Greymouth). Middleweight (11.41—D. Gilsennan (Inangahua Landing), 11. Cotter (Du nollie), R. Dawson (Greymouth). Heavyweight (12.0)—W. Larcombe and McKenzie (Greymouth). Larcombe was the only entry in the light-heavy class. The Association has arranged that, in addition to the amateur bouts, I’. Mitchell, the recently-arrived Scots featherweight, and Dick Pascoe are to give a four-round exhibition bout on Saturday evening.

The following officials for the tourney have been appointed: Referee, Mr A. Beban; time-keeper, Mr J. D. Wingham; gong steward, Mr E. R. Moss; weight steward, Mr Kim Williams: ring” stewards, Messrs S. Groom and A. White; call stewards, Messrs N. Jones and E. Ashton; glove steward, Mr E O’Sullivan; official seconds, Messrs H. Mclvor, P. Gillon, F. O’Neill and P. Mitchell. At a meeting of the Boxing Association. Messrs G. E. Perkins and J. Guy wore appointed to draw stewards tor the tournament. It was decided tna nil competitors should receive then tickets at Mr Kim Williams’s promises on Satnrdav. Mr Williams was thanked for his gift of a gold medal for the gamest boxer at the tourney. The Boxing Association at last meeting received requests for matches from four professionals, P. Mitchell II Casey, P. Gleeson, and R. Elmour. and the applications are to be kept in Messrs E. McDonnell, R. Ford, F. H. Denton, W. Sharp, M. Buckley, W Kells and R. Marshall have been elect ed members of the Grey Boxing As sociation. DEMPSEY v. TUNNEY. VANCOUVER, July 19. Chicago reports that Dempsey :iml Tenney will fight there on September 16th.
