DOMINION NEWS.

NAUTICAL INQUIRY. AUCKLAND, August 11. A nautical Court of Inquiry con|cerning the collision between the steamer Wainui and the launch Ins Eileen, in Rangitoto channel, on July 7th, returned the following finding:— ‘‘The Court is of the opinion that the collision was caused by’ tne master of the Iris Eileeu (A. L. O’Brien) failing to port helm when he became aware the Wainui was turning, slid showing 1 11 navigation lights, there being ample time for him to do so; also the master of the Iris Eileen failed to observe the regulations for the prevention of collisions at sea. The Court is further of opinion that the Rangitoto Beacon being the recognised turning point, it behoves incoming launches to exercise great care at this point. No order is made as to costs, and we order the certificate c-f the Master of Wainui (Captain Chatfield) to be returned. SHIP'S COOK FOUND DROWNED. AUCKLAND. August 11 The body of Philip Hamilton, aged 44, formerly second cook on the steamer Mana,ia, was found in the sea off St. Keliei’s Bay Wharf to-day. He was paid off the ship on July 21.
