TURKEY’S CHANCES IMPROVE. A LEAGUE OF NATIONS ’• WORT. [Reuter Cablegram.] LONDON, .August 7. A report Uy tho Neutral Commission appointed by tho League of Nations to enquire ns t;> the .Mosul frontier (as cabled on July 29) recommends the union of tho wnole territory of Iraq .subject to it - remaining Under the League of Nations’ control for 25 years. If the League’s control, is not maintained, (says the report) it would be advantageous for the territory to remain under the sovereignity of Turkey, whose internal and external conditions of stability are incomparably more stable than Iraq’s. In the event of the League Council deciding to split up the territory, the commission recommends a frontier approximately following the line if the Losses Zab,
which leaves Mosul itself within Turkish territory.
The final decision rests with the League. THE MILK IN THE COCOANUT. BRITAIN’S CONCERN FOR THE OIL! August 9 nt 5.5. p.m.) LONDON, August 8. The “Daily Telegraph’s’’ political correspondent states:—The Mosul re--port is characterised by an anti-Bri-tish bias. The suggestion that Britain should remain in Iraq for a score of years, -or return the large rich portion of it to Turkey, is bound to embarrass the British and Iraq Govemments, for the benefit of Turkey, or possibly of sonic foreign oil interests.
