GETTING QUIT OF ARMY OFFICERS MELBOURNE, June I. A letter has been received from General Rawlinson, stating that 2000 young officers of the Indian Army will shortly be retired, and asking for information regarding the suitability of Australia, and the prospects for their settlement. Each officer on retiring receives a sum of £lOOO to £l5OO as compensation. Mr Hughes has replied offering to send a representative to India, and is asking from State Premiers particulars of land available and terms of settlement.
