ST JOHN'S FLOWER SHOW

Arrangements are well forward for St. John's Sweet Pea and Rose Show, which opens in the Drill Hall on Wednesday afternoon next. The recent ( rain has had the effect .of giving the I flowers a fresh lease of life. By show day they should be at their best and some very fine blooms be available for 'exhibition. It has been decided that ■ the baby show being arranged for the I afternoon, will take the form of a "war baby" show, so that all babies born since the declaration of war will be eligible for the competition. A large entry in this section is looked for. Those with gardens — flower or j vegetable — can enter for the best-kept 'garden (Section A). The judge will call and inspect each garden during the afternoon .and his decision will be announced in the hall during ithe progress of the show. A novelty in the millinery art is provided in Section B of the schedule: "Best hat made on a wire frame entirely of flowers, and to be wearable." Some very fine "creations" can be made for this class and great interest usually cen-. tres round the floral hat exhibit. Good prizes have been donated for the champion rose and- the champion sweet pea of the show, and those growers who can make an entry for these two classes should not fail to do so. The committee has been singularly fortunate in being able to arrange for judges. The judge for Section A (floral) and Section E (produce) is to be Mr. Courtier, the Government expert. Mesdames O'Mallcy and McConville will judge Section B (decorative) and Section C (children's); Mr. 'Pope. Section D (domestic); Mesdames Cooke and Gaskin, Section F (work competition), and Matron Kitto the "war babies." Exhibitors are asked to bear in mind that all exhibits must be in the hall by 11 o'clock on. the morning of the show. ' ,
