CONCILIATION COURT

A DEADLOCK

(Pe r United Press Association.)

DUNEDIN, July r. The Dunedin-Branch of the Amalgamated Engineers Society were before the Conciliation Council to-day.

A deadlock occurred over the first clause of the demands, making the week one of 44 instead of 47 hours.

Tho employers said they were nor disposed to concede anything with re gard to any of the principal clauses, because to do so would prejudice the employers in other centres where the dispute had. also arisen. It would be better, they suggested, to refer the dispute bodily t o thel Arbitration Court in the hope of a Dominion awardl

The Union delegates reluctantly con sented, and Mr Triggs formally agreed to the course proposed.
