A auestion recently asked by Mr Laurenson of the Minister of Public Works was : Whether his attention has bean drawn to allegations made in a Daper published in Christchurch as to the state of affairs in the State coal mines, and if so what step does he propose to take in the matter?

The Hon R. Mc'Kenzie replied to—"My attention has been drawn to the allegations made in the newspaper published in Christchurch as to the position of affairs at the State >:o.al mine. I am at present making »iquiry info the matters referred to, aid if these allegations are found to Kave any foundation in fact I expect 4 o be in a position to deal with them very isoon."
