The main reason why the system was not producing better results, was due to the apashy-of parents, who got advantages too lightly, and did not sufficiently value them. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House of Representatives v met aft 2.30. The Ohinemuri Silting Bill, was introduced by Governor's Message. The Premier explained that the Bill •amended the Mining' Act,, of 1908, in regard to the prodcimation, declaring the Waihou and Ohinemuri ,River s to be water courses. . Clause 4 provides ior die dissolution of the Ohinemuri River Board. Clause s,included in.; the schedule of the Bil]. provides for lands to be declared a rver district, ■' tinder name of the Waihou and Ohinemuri River Trust District. The ..Bill conferred certain powers on the Thames Harbour ' Board and on t-he. Minister, the latter b.e-'ng granted power to alter the course of fhe river between watercourses The Bill also contained provision, for assessing compensation for loss of land, destroyed by silting, and for taking land under the Public Work* Act.
The Minister is also granted power to construct protective works connec'■inir with private water courses.
