Minister, the latter b.e-'ng granted power to alter the course of fhe river between watercourses The Bill also contained provision, for assessing compensation for loss of land, destroyed by silting, and for taking land under the Public Work* Act.

The Minister is also granted power to construct protective works connec'■inir with private water courses.
