At noon to-day 49 minute guns were fired by the permanent artillery from the Fainting bat'ery, oat of respect to the memory of the Czar, who is being burled to day. Cbristcbtobch, November 17. Fletcher and Humphreys, wholesale wine and spirit merchants' store, Chancery Lano, waH destroyed by .fire laat night. The building was a three storey extenBlvely stocked with wines, spirits, tea, and general merchandise. The fire J originated In the top flat used as a coffee, I spice, and pepper store, and is supposed j to have originated from a coffee roaeter. Two top storeys were gutted and the fire spread to the roof of the three Btorey bond at the back. Two upper storeys of this which contained tea and merchandise were also gutted. The fire did not reach the spirits stored in the lower floor nor the cellar. The stock wai a large and valuable one worth 170,000*
