SUPREME COURT SITTINGS.

[united press association.] Christchurch, October 8. At the Supreme Court the following sentences were passed this morning on the prisoners convicted of robbery from'! the D.J.C. :— C. J. Harris, 18 months' hard labor ; Thomas E. Potter, nine months' hard labor ; Daniel Masks, three years' penal servitude ; W. H. Gulbanks, 18 months' hard labor. In the Supreme Court to-day, Frank O'Neill and Richard Chamberlain were convicted of larceny and sentenced to 12 months' hard labor. Ada Gilbert was acquitted of receiving goods stolen by them. Charles Brown, convicted of larceny from the person, was sentencod to 12 months'. The boy Ross, previously convicted of sealing, was placed under the Probation Act for 12 months. Searle, his comparion, was ordered to come up for sentence when cal"ed upon. Wellington 1 , Oc-ober 7. At the Supreme Court to-day the question of estreating the bail in the case of Robin, charged with embezzlement, but who did not appear, was mentioned. Ah the commencement counsel for the , sureties took objection that the recognizances were void ex facie, as they were signed by Justice Peace and not by the commit' ing magistrate. After argument the case was adjourned for a treek.
