Tha John Rylands library at Manchester will publish the text of two Biblical payyri discovered in an Egyptian rubbish heap. The most important consists of four fragments of the book of Deuteronomy written in the stcond century. Thus it is 300 years older than the oldest Biblical manuscript previously known and the only existing pre-Christian evidence for the text of the Old Testament.
