DO’NTS FOR BATHERS

IMPORTANT SAFETY HINTS

As a warning to bathers, the Vietorian National Safety Council 7ms issued the following “dont’s” :

1. Do not dive into water without first making sure of its depth. Many fatalities have been caused by persons diving into shallow water and hitting their heads on

rocks. 2. Do not throw bottles about. Hundreds of people are gashed by Ihe glass from broken bottles, which should be put into the receptacles provided. 3. Do not bathe immediatey after a meal. This causes congestion of tho 'Stomach muscles, leading to collapse in the water. 4. Do not expose yourself to the sun at first for more than ten .minutes at a time, lfadly burnt backs and bodies often have serious results. 5. If you are a non-swimmer, do not play with inflated rubber toys. These are apt to float away with tho tide and take you out of your depth. Don’t let children play with these toys in the open sea.

6. In creeks or rivers make sure there are no high currents or snags before you take a plunge.
