APPEAL TO MAYOR OF DUNEDIN

Many unusual and difficult appeals come to the Mayor of a city, but seldom is lie asked to use his office as a matrimonial agency in an attempt to find a husband in New Zealand. .However, a London girl has sought the help of the Mayor of Dunedin, tin* Rev. E- T. Cox. •'I am writing to make an unusual request.'’ says the young woman in the letter which the Mayor reviv'd in his mail this morning from London, “hnl r hope you will help me. Could van put me in touch with a man in Yew Zealand wh > would nrarry me and give a home to mv mother? I have always had a gre: t desire to- go to New Zealand. I have heard su many good things about ho people and the country. .1 vers: in an office ut)d support my widowed mother hut if- j-s only a hare exist.m ••• and f would like her to have, a mote tom ioriablc home and less anxiety over money for the remaining, yea vs of her life.
“Ilfi there is any man in Yew Zealand (1 hear they are both kind and chivalrous) who will pay our fares and take care of .my mother. 1 would do‘ my best- to he a grateful and loving wife to him. Tdo not mind living in an isolated spot, and 1 do net mind how old the man is, or whether lie is a bachelor or a widower. I am 24 years oft age, of mixed Scottish and Welsh ancestry, tall and of medium colouring with blue eyes and brown hair.”
The writer expresses a willingness to send a photograph to anyone who cares to write to her.
