JOBS FOR BOYS
PROGRESS OF AUCKLAND MOVEMENT. (Press Association; < -y; AUCKLAND, May 3. Last year the Boys’ Employment Committee found country jobs for 500 city boys, the majority of whom, it is believed, would otherwise have become a charge on the city’s charitable organisations. It is estimated that the committee thus saved the community about £12,000. The annual meeting, held 1 last night, was attended by the president, Sir Joseph Smith, the secretary and 15 others, although 60 prominent citizens had been invited to come and hear of the committee’s work and intentions. ‘You should not he disappointed at the small attendance,’’ remarked the Mayor, Mr G. IV. Hutchison. “I have learned that the more you do the .less people appreciate you. Had you not been carrying out your iwork in a way the public approved you would have had many here tonight.” Another of those present remarked that all those who had turned up were extremely busy men
