DARING BURGLARY

SAFE REMOVED AND BLOWNOPEN. BOOTY AMOUNTS TO £5 (Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 3. An audacious burglary was carried out last night in the Laundry Company’s premises .in Essex street. Burglar levered a sliding door off its rails to gain an entrance and then carried a small safe from the office and down a flight of six steps into the factory. /They could have been seen by passers-by through a glass window. They removed the safe to the factory floor, using a truck for the purpose, and then carried it down into the electric fuse room, which has a concrete floor. There they burst it open with explosive, removed the money it contained, and departed through the back door. While in the office they ransacked every drawer and strewed the contents on the floor. The safe contained only petty cash, about £5 in all.
