SHIPOWNERS REDUCTIONS
ASSISTANCE TO N.Z. PRODUCERS COSTS £300,000. (Press Association.! WELLINGTON. Oct. 31The Overseas Shipowners Allotment Committee announce reductions in freight on the following classes ot general cargo-.—Wool and sheepskins: Reduced to 15-18 d per lb. Slipe wool: —Reduced to 1 1-lbd pei ib. Washed w ool: —Reduced to i 3-166 per lbTallow—Reduced to 64s per ton weight. Pelts.—Reduced to 50s Sd per ton weight. Hides—Reduced to 80s 2d per ton weight. Preserved meats; —Reduced 4is 6u per ton measurement. Meat extract. —Reduced to 123 s 6d per ton measurement. All the above rates are plus the usual primage and subject to current conditions regarding exchange. These reduced rates come into effect on all shipments made in vessels sailing finally from the Dominion on and after November 1. 1233. The shipowners state they have already made reductions on other classes o: cargo totalling £300,000 per annum m an endeavour to assist the New Zealand producers, and the only hope they" have of minimising these sacrifices is bv greatly increased trade between the T nited Kingdom and the Dominion.
