REQUEST TO BOROUGH COUNCIL
MATTER DEFERRED
A suggestion for tho re-valuation of thlQ borough was received by the council last evening from tho Gisborne Chamber of Commerce, which wrote as folloivs: —
"Owing to the result of the recent Assessment'Court findings, valuations of certain properties for which application avhs made haA’e been considerably reduced, Avhich will consequently mean that these properties will ho rated much louver than the neighbouring ones—a position that must he considered anomalous and unfair. To remove these anomalies as soon as possible, my chamber desires to know if your council will join in making a request to the Valuer-Gen-eral to have k a re-valuation of the borough at an early date. If this is nob done, the chamber submits that almost, every property Hi,, Gisborne will be up for revaluation at the next sitting of the Assessment Court.” “This seems a matter requiring attention”, said the Afayor (Air John Jackson), “for there are many anomalies. If 've could got the Government to act, fit would be a good thing.”
The acting-town clerk, Air AV. Jenkins, in reply to a. question, stated that tlife cost to the borough of the last revaluation was £230!. It was decided to hold the matter over until the next meeting.
