SUGG LISTED EMPRU VEME.N IS. REPLY FROM HIGHWAYS HO A Lib Recently the Gisborne Chamber ot Commerce wrote to the Main Highways. Board suggesting that improvements be carried out on certain roads in the district. At yesterday s meeting of the chamber, the- lo’lowing reply was received from the chairman of the board: ,“X have to advise that, concerning the Rotoiria Hill roau, the hoard
cannot admit at present it is m a dangerous state. As a matter of fact the road is considered to be in better condition now than ever it lias been in the past. It is admitted, of course, that many further •m----provements could be carried out which would be appreciated by road users, but under prevailing conditions these improvement- works cannot bo js titled. “■Concerning the Motu-Opctiki nignway, your chamber is no doubt aware that, although the AVaioeka road has been added to the highway system*, the Motu routs is also still a main highway, and it is not the board’s intention to allow this latter road to fall into disrepair. “In reference to the proposed More re deviation The board desires to point out that substantial expenditure would be involved and, at present, the board’s financial position will not allow of any major improvement works of this nature being undertaken, However, your representations regarding the deviation being formed by relief labor have been noted for consideration.’’ The letter was received without comment
