The (men employed at Wilton coal mine at .Glen Massey, near Huntly, numbering between 70 and 80, refused to.; work this week, the ground givefi for their attitude- being a protest ; against' the dismissal of 55 miners immediately before the Xmas holidays. The men worked • last week, and trouble became evident only this weok; .
The company was compelled' to dismiss 55 miners on account of slackness of trade. The - miners have held several meetings in regard to the question, and • further meetings are consideroc] probable. •When inquiries were made at the offite of the Wilton Collieries, Ltd., Auckland, it was stated that no statement regarding the company’s position in thp matter would be made at present; It was stated that the men’s action .was considered to be -ppntrary to/their agreement with the,ir . employers, . and in eonsequeneo cousic|eratjon would bo given. lo tlio whb]je position. .
