OBITUARY
MRS THOMAS GARRETT
Deep regret will be felt at the announcement of the death, yesterday morning, of Airs Elizabeth Marv Garrett, relict of the late Mr Thomas Garrett, formerly a well-known local business man. The late Airs Garrett was born in Ireland and came to New Zealand as a young woman. Her marriage too a place in Napier and about forty yea' s ago they settled in Gisborne, making a very wide circle of friends in Ib;s town and Air Garrett- winning a very enviable name for business integrity. Latterly, Airs Garrett had been ailing. To her only soil, Air T. IT. v»-'r-rett. also of Gisborne, tin* deepest sympathy in his sad loss will be extended. The interment will be of a private nature. AIRS BARBARA GRIFFIN The death occurred at Cook Hospital yesterday oi All's John Griffin, a resident of New Zealand for the past 75 years and of Gisborne since 1920The late Airs Griffin was born ill Scotland SO years ago and came to New Zealand as a girl ol 11 years in the sailing ship Clontari. with her parents and other members of the family. They landed at- Lyttelton, and for many years the iamily was well known in farming circles in Canterbury. Airs Griffin's marriage took place there, and later she and her husband removed to Hawke's Bay, where they were well known during their residence there ol some forty years. When her husband passed away, Airs Griffin came to Gisborne to be near the majority of her family and until" recent 'months, when she fell a victim to a lingering illnes's, had enjoyed fair health. During her stay here she made many tiriu friends and they will join in extending the deepest sympathy to the family of two daughters, Alesdames F. Aston and A. Carson (both of Gisborne), and two sons. Alessrs (John Griffin (Gisborne), and Sidney Griffin (Napier). The funeral will leave Cochrane's chapel at 2 p.m. to-day (Wednesday) for Turuheru cemetery.
