AGITATOR’S DEATH.
PULICE BLAMED FOR..PUNJAB LEADER'S END. ALLEGATION DENIED IN COMMONS. (British Olßoial Wireless.) RUGBY, Nov. 26. Questions were asked in Parliament about the circumstances of the death of the Punjab leader, Lajpat itai, with particular reference to the allegations of Lajpat, Rai’s friends that his death resulted from blows delivered by a police officer on the occasion of a public ' demonstration against the Simon Commission in Lahore.
Lord Wintertou, Under-Secretary for India, replied that two inquiries had been held into the incident at Lahore, which arose out of an illegal procession, forbidden. by the police. The Secretary of India was satisfied that no more force was used than was necessary to prevent the crowds breaking through the barricades. .There was no’ deliberate and unprovoked attack by the police, and no individual was singled out for assault. No evidence had been adduced to show that Lajpat Rai’s aeoth was due to blows received from the police. _
