AUCKLAND Nov. 26. The first big selection of top-mak-ing wool off-erad in Tfow Zealand this season excited keen and highly representative bidding at l the opening of the first Auckland wool sale of the year to-night. Prices on the average exceeded those of the first sale last year hv halfpenny to a penny a pound. There was a full bench of buyers, representative of nearly all the wool consuming centres of the world. The clip generally was heavier conditioned and more greasy than those so far offered throughout the Dominion, and the prices realised were, approximately, on a >par with those obtained at Wellington, Wanganui and Napier, but having regard to the circumstances named, are really Letter than they appear. France, Germany and Bradford secured the bulk of the evening’s offering, Bradford, in particular, operating much more freely than at the opening sale last year. _ . Bellies and pieces showed a rise of about twopence a pound on the values of the November, 1927, auction. Strong wools, particularly, sold better than last year, and fine wools, in mar.v cases, showed an improvement upon the realisatibns at other sales this season. A few lots were passed in. The top price of the.evening was realised by nine bales of re-classed halfbred wether, sold for 25d a lb. The sale will be continued tomorrow.
