HUGE BLAZE.
ONE OF WORST IN WELLINGTON’S HISTORY.
FOUR FIRMS BURNED OUT. BRIGADE HAVING HARD TASK. (Preao Association.) , WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. One of the most serious conflagrations in the history of Wellington broke out at about 10 o’clock to-night in the city block bounded by Courtenay Place, Blair Street, Wakefield Street,; and Alien Street. The chief premises in the block, few if any, it seems, will escape, are mostly shops and warehouses, but the most important buildings, . are large fruit and vegetable markets; The brigade have made little or no impression on the huge Maze, but, at 11.45, it seems to be burning out. !The fire appeared to have a firm, hold when the alarm was given. ‘ ; The following premises have already' been destroyed:- ' ! Thompson Bros., provision merchants. ' . ’ . _ , Leary and Co., fruit market.
