TE KARAKA HOUSE RAZED

A defective chimney is believed to have caused the fire which uratroyed a five-roomed dwelling in Waihora St.. To Karaka, on Saturday night. The building was owned by Mr Oliver Sandland of. Gisborne and occupied by Mr and Mrs HTmgBtoh. The outbreak was discovered at about 10.60 o’clock, when Mr Kingston was absent from his home, and Mrg Kingston and a young girl were forced to - leave the dwelling hurriedly. Only a ■ portion of the family effects was. saved, the salvage including a valuable collection of cups and trophies won by Mr Kingston at dog trials and agricultural shows. Mr Kingston will he a fairly heavy loser, it. is understood. Trouble had been experienced with the chimney during Saturday afternoon. Mr Hingston’s effects were insured for £250, and the building for £3OO, both being in the Standard Insurance office. 1 SIX-BOOMED FARMHOUSE (Pres* Asuoolatlon.* • BLENHEIM, Nov. 5., As the result of an early morning outbreak of fire a six-roomed farmhouse owned and occupied by I. An. old fiveroomed two-storeyed, dwelling in Ren wick town, occupied by Walter Brooks, also Avas. completely destroyed. The insurance on the building was £2OO.
