HURLEY’S FLIGHT.
FIRST STEP TOWARDS ENGLAND ARRIVAL AT OODNADATTA OVER AUSTRALIAN' DESERT RECORD TIME STARTS FROM WEST AUSTRALIA ' * On!ted Proas Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright (Australian Press Association.) (Received' Oct: 31, 8.45 pan.) SYDNEY. Oct. 31. Captain Hurley landed in fine style at Oodnadatta, South Australia. at 2.5 p.m., to-day, South Australian time. He hopped oil from Broken Hill at six o’clock this morning. There was a strong head wind nearly all the distance. The plane passed over a considerable extent of desert, pockmarked with straggling clamps of inulga bush, which Captain Hurley describes as “a wilderness of abysmal loneliness.” The crew are all well and the monoplane is O.K. Interviewed at Broken Hill last night, Captain Hurley explained that he does not intend to take a serious view of delays, as the time for the trip, to England does not start until the monoplane leaves AVyndham, north of Western Australia.
Captain Hurley intends to stay for a few hours at Wyndham to examine the engine before crossing the ocean to Andir in the Dutch East Indies. He will then go on to Point Victoria, Burma. (Received Nov. 1, 12.5 a.m.) Captain Hurley is staying overnight at Oodnadatta, resuming at 6 o’clock in the morning.-
