For the Addington douHle market in view of the Show and racing carnival next week, there were larger entries of fat cattle and spring lambs, but only, an average one of fat sheep. There was a keen demand for beef the previous week’s values being firmly maintained. . . • • :y j Most of the fat sheep were shorn and for these the demand was keener than for those in wool. All prime sheep showed an advance of, 1/-, but there was practically no change in other descriptions., . Spring lmabs met with a good sale. There was' a ready sale for store cattle., a feature of the yarding being some pens of three to five-year steers in backward condition. Good dairy cows sold well at late rates, and prime vealers were in short supply and sold at. advanced rates. There was a larger yarding of store sheep than for .some time past/, and us a result of good rains, there was a much improved demand. Dry sheep advanced 1/- to- 1/6 per. head, whileewes and lambs were firm at late rates. . Values, were: Good halftkad ewe hoggets 33s 6d to 395, good threequarterbred ewe hoggets to 355; Romney ewe hoggets 39s 6d; shorn ewe hoggets to 25s' 3d; woolly crossbred wether hoggets .to 275.; shorn wether hoggets 19s to 22s 6d; woolly half bred wethers 33s 6d to 355; well Avoolled crossbred wethers to 345; backward ewes with lambs 15s 6d to 17s 6d (all counted). There was an entry of 600 spring lambs, a' good proportion being prime and well grown, and others small and light. There was a keen demand and all good sorts sold,at late rates, small and light being a shade easier. Values were: Extra prime lamb’s 37s to 40s; prime lainbs 33s to 365; medium lambs 28s to 325; small lambs 23s 6d to 275.

The bulk of offerings of fat sheep were shorn, and the_ greater proportion were of very prime quality. The demand on the part of butchers was more for shorn sheep than for those in wool . Prime sheep, both in. and out of the wool, showed a rise of about 1/- per head, aud medium and backward sorts sold fully up. to the previous week’s rates. Values were: Extra prime shorn wethers to 48s 3d; prime shorn wethers 36s to 42s ; lighter shorn wethers 27s lCd to 355; extra prime woolly wethers to 55s Id; prime woolly wethers 44s to 50s; medium and unfinished woolly wethers 38s to 43s 6d; extra prime woolly eaves to 53s 4d; prime woolly ewes 37s to .41s; medium and inferior woolly ewes 30s to 365; prime shorn ewes "to 41s 4d; prime shorn_ewes 33s to 375; lighter shorn' ewes 25s to 325; shorn hoggets 21s lOd to 2Ss 3d; lighter woolly hoggets 26s lOd to 345; prime woolly hoggets 35s to 465. The yarding of fat cattle totalled 744. The quality was exceptionally good as a whole, prime steers and heifers forming by far the greater proportion. The only outside supplies were from the West Coast. The market opened at price quite up to the previous week’s rates and the sale continued very firm throughout. While not quotatUy higher prices were inclined to harden. Extra prime handy weight steer and heifer beef was equal to 51s to 555; average prime steer beef 47s to 50s; plain heavy steer 38s 6d to 435; prime cow and heifer beef 46s to 50s; medium 41s 6d to 455, and rough down to 32s per 100-lb. Values were: Extra prime steers -to £24 2s 6d ; prime steers £2O to £2l 10s; medium steers £lB to £l9 15s; ordinary steers £ll 12s 6d to £l7 5s ; prime heifers £ls 10s to £l7 17s 6d to £ls ss; extra prime cows to £l7 7s 6d; prime cows £l4 10s to £l6 15s ; medium cows £ll to £l4 5s ;aged and inferior cows £8 to £lO 15s. There was a fairly large mixed yarding of vealers. Good sorts were below requirements, and prices then showed an advance. Values were: Yearlings to 2-year-olds to £11; good vealers £7 10s to £9 10s; medium vealers £3 10s to £7: small calves 15s to £2 10s.

There was a mixed yarding of store cattle and a good sale for all classes. Values were; Four and 5-year steers £l2 15s; 3 and 4-year steers £lO 12s Sd; yearling steers £4 13s 6d to £5 Is; 3-year heifers £7 16s ±o £8; good sows £5 10s -to £8: medium cows £3 to £5: old cows 30s to £2 10s; bulls 30s to £9.

There was an average yarding of dairy cows, and good sorts sold fully up to late rates. Values were: Best second, third and fourth calvers £8 10s to £11; medium sorts £6 to £8; inferior sorts £4- to £5 10s; backward calvers £4 10s to £6 10s ; heifers £4 10s to £9. There was a large yarding of porkers and choppers and a medium one of baeoners. Choppers were in over supply, there being a record entry of between. 30 and 60. and prices all ■round were lower. Baeoners sold at ■late rates, and porkers opened well, but prices eased off towards the end of the sale. Values were: Choppers ‘3os to £o; light baeoners £3 to £3 10s; heavy baeoners £3 15s to- £4 6s 6d; extra, heavy baeoners to £4 6s 6d —average, price per lb. s|d to bid; light, porkers 32s to 45 s ; heavy' porkers 48s to 58s 6d—average price per lb. 6?d to "IdA medium entry of store pigs was cleared at slightlv improved prices. Values were: Small weaners 6s to 9s; good weaners 10s to 14s; small stores 12s to 16s; medium steers 17s to 225; large stores 25s to 30s; extra large stores to 35s 6d.

AUCKLAND, Oct. 31. ; At AVestiield, there was an average yarding of ox beef, which sold under steady conietition at prices on a par with last, week’s rates. Lighter sorts specially were firm., One truck of bullocks realised £l6 15s to £1( 12s 6d, and another realised £ls 12s 6d to £l6 12s <3d. Fat cows and heifers came forward in less than average numbers and were very firm at last week’s rates, Young cow and heifers' realised £lO 10s to £ll, lighter sorts £9 5s to £9 10s.
