BREAKING- AND ENTERING. (Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Oct. 30. Rov Norris was sentenced to Jive 'Years’' imprisonment 611 two charges of breaking and entering and theft. Arthur James Connop was sentenced to three years’ reformative detention ior breaking and entering and assault in connection with the'*Mt Eden sensation. CRIMINAL SESSIONS. (Press Association 1 WELLINGTON, Oct. 30. The criminal sessions of the Supreme Court opened this morning. Mr Justice Reed in his charge to the Grand Jury congratulated the district- on the comparatively light list of cases' for trial. It was regretted that of the four cases- two were concerned with interference with girls, while other cases' were foi thefts. George William Jacobs, on a charge of indecent assault; was sentenced to 18 months’ hard labor.' TWO YEARS' PROBATION 'FOR BIGAMY'. COMMENDABLE FEATURES IN - CASE. (Press Association.) In the Supreme Court to-day Mi Just.lca Blair sentenced John Carroll to t-Wo years’ probation on a charge of bigamy, saying that there were features in his conduct that wore commendable. Carroll had lived for several years at. Pe.Jmerstou North .-....with. Airs Rbocta Moore, a married woman/ by wiiom lie had two children. They went through ft form of marriage in 1920, but in 1927' separated when Carroll became involved with another young woman. He had made ex ten sive inquiries io ascertain if Mrs Moore’s husband was dead and believed he was living under an assumr.Y name to- avoid maintenance.
Carroll, his cc.unse] said, married .a, second time m, deference -to the '■bung woman lie had got into trouble. His Honor said there was an absence of an element of deception, and lie felt sure accused would take steps to regularise his present marriage. SHO t’L IFTERS IN COLLUSION. . GAOL FOR MARRIED WOMEN. (Press Association-) WELLINGTON, Oct. 30. A systematic course of Shoplifting was revealed by Chief Detectivo Ward' in the Magistrate’s Court today, when three married women— Aiinie Dean, 32, Adrienne Lindsey Kersha w, 21, an d Alary Wearno, 45 —came before Air E. Page, S.AL, Dean oh seven charges involving £54 ins Gd from shops and warehouses in Wellington and Christchurch, Kershaw on one charge, and -AVearne on three charges of theft and one of receiving. Ain Page said he was satisfied, that they had acted together. Lean and AVearne were sentenced to six months’ gaol, and Kershaw to’three months’ imprisonment.
