Georgo Bancroft, who recently swept triumphantly to stardom in his sensational past successes, has achieved a most powerful characterisation in “The Showdown,” opening to-night at the Palace. Realising that Bancroft had created 1 a niche for himself in the hearts of theatre audiences. Paramount set out to find a new story for the player which would give scope for the tremendous vitality he exhibited in “Underworld.” in the new picture, “The Showdown,” they, found a ofiaracter exactly suited to tho star. “The Showdown” is tho story of .a man whose footsteps have been dogged by spies from wealthy oil companies' and who has seen < success snatched from his grasp time after time by these scheming interests; When, at length, he has outwitted them and is. about to reap the reward of his toil, there comes a test of courage arid honor such as have never confronted him before. His method of answering this test -makes one of the most ..dramatic stories which has ever t been filmed. Heading the cast supporting Bancroft are Evelyn Brent, Nyil Hamilton, Fred Kohler, Arnold Kent and' Leslie Fenton- . The picture was directed by Victor Sohertzingejr,
