VON REEDEN IN AUCKLAND

Disappointed with his experiences' in Australia, Charlie Von Reeden, the American bantamweight boxer, whose confession last week that ho had agreed to lose his fight against Kid Socks caused a sensation m Australian sports circles, is a through passenger by the Niagara. Tex Salkeld, Von Reedon’s manager. says that his man was very disgusted with his treatment in Australia. His fight against Socks was the last of five, for which he was under contract to Stadium, Limited Von Reeden had won his first- four engagements, knocking out Billy Ale Allister, the Australian once, and outpointing him once . and earning a decision over Socks and Charlie Glasson, but the takings, ol which ho was entitled to 25 per cent, had never come up to expectations. In his fifth light, he saw a chance to make some money, hut- the fight was declared “no contest” and an inquiry followed. Von- Rcedon. who is only 21 years of age, is tall for his weight and is very fast with his hands. For three years he was in the U.S. Navy. Yon Eeedon has had 6S fights, and. up till his unsatisfactory contest. with Socks, had once been beaten in his last -13 bouts, although he drew twice.
