There has been a sensation in boxing circles over the statement of the American, Van Drceden, relative to liis match against the Englishman, Kid Socks, last Saturday, which the referee declared a “no contest,” he being dissatisfied with the genuine*: ness of tho American’s performance. . The- letter in an affidavit confesses that he agreed tb lose the: fight in tho fifth round and that he was-to receive a percentage.of tho winnings which a third person, whom he named, expected tb gam by backing the Englishman. Van Droedcn’s contract with the Stadiums, Ltd., has been terminated, and a passage tor America secured for him by the Niagara, leaving from Sydney. " ~ AMERICAN'S SHARE OF GATE FORFEITED. Van Reerdon’s share of the gate money has been forfeited to the Lord Mayor’s funds. The Stadium management examined Kid Socks, and if it is considered he too is implicated, his share also wdl be withheld. ICid Socks sails on the Moolton for London to-morrow.
