United Press Assn, by El. Tel. Copyright (Times Cables. \_ (Received Oct. 19, 10.5 p.m.) • LONDON, Oct, 19. The Berlin correspondent of the Times reports that President Hindenburg was unable to attend tho opening of a new cavalry school at. Hanover, but sent a message emphasising the importance of cavalry in the present German army, urging that officers should set an example to their men of sure and-resolute leadership. ‘‘Regard your men as a precious trust confided in you by the. Fatherland. Be proud of your profession. Above all, keep the shield of your honor clean, its purest metal is love for and loyalty to our sorelytried Fatherland.” . . German military opinion usual maintains that the quota of cavalry in the present German army a s prescribed at Versailles is disproportionately large. Great* importance is therefore attached to making the best use of ' it-, The recent . manoeuvres in Upper Silesia were mainly devoted to testing new method's for using cavalry for defensive warfare.
